Reggae evolved out of the ska and rocksteady genres in the late '60s in Jamaica. Reggae incorporates elements of R&B;, jazz, calypso, and African and Latin American music. It frequently uses offbeat rhythms typically accented by staccato chords played by a guitar and/or a piano.
