Down to the Bone, is an acid jazz group directed by British DJ Stuart Wade, who formed the band in 1996 with Chris Morgans (who is now gone). The group is very popular in the United Kingdom, where it is "acclaimed as the kings of the groove jazz of the United Kingdom". The band's music is a mixture of funk and jazz.
As of 2014, there are two sets of personnel for the band: an American band and a British band.

A mediados de la década de 1970, un joven trompetista de Queens obtuvo una beca para la High School of Music & Performing Arts en Nueva York. En ese momento, nadie podría haber imaginado que se le ocurrirían algunos de los sonidos funk más brillantes jamás grabados.
Tom Browne aprendió de Freddie Hubbard y otros héroes de trompeta. Lanzó uno de los álbumes de jazz funk más brillantes de la historia con su debut Browne Sugar en 1979, junto con el clásico Billboard No 1 single 'Funkin' For Jamaica 'al año siguiente.

Al igual que el flautista Hubert Laws, Tom Browne logró construir la fascinación del funk en las melodías románticas del jazz contemporáneo.

1. We speak of Oli Silk, keyboardist, producer and composer of British smooth jazz of which we will have a monograph of his career at the end of the program.

Posteriormente culminó sus estudios de Derecho en Panamá y por problemas políticos se trasladó a Miami y posteriormente a Nueva York, buscando la oportunidad de introducirse en el ambiente musical. Allí buscó trabajo en la compañía discográfica Fania, que lo contrató en el servicio de correos de la empresa. Esto le permitió entrar en contacto y conocer a las figuras más importantes del sello disquero, y en esa época Richie Ray y Bobby Cruz, Ismael Miranda, Roberto Roena y Bobby Rodríguez cantaron temas de su autoría.3​

Su oportunidad se presentó cuando Ray Barreto, buscando un vocalista para ocupar un puesto en su orquesta, le hizo una audición y lo contrató. Con esta banda participó en los discos Barreto (1975) y Tomorrow Barreto Live (1976).
